26 Feb 2025 Green Cards For Sale, FOR Only $5 Million!
President Trump recently announced that the U.S. government will start selling green cards (which he called “gold cards”) for $5 million each. The details will come out in a few weeks, so stay tuned for additional updates.
I fully realize that many people do not have $5 million available to enable them to buy a green card. But many people do, whether it is for themselves, or they want to allow their children to get a green card and eventual U.S. citizenship.
Also, President Trump noted that there are companies who desperately want top students to work for their company after graduation, such as Apple, but there is always the uncertainty that once the student graduates, whether they can obtain the appropriate work visa or green card to enable the company to hire them on a full-time basis. This $5 million investment by the company, which could be similar to a signing bonus for an athlete, would guarantee top graduates could work for the company.
While in the Oval Office, President Trump introduced the concept of this $5 million “gold card,” which he noted would be for wealthy people or successful companies wanting top graduates to work for them. He also noted we already have the visa lottery for green cards, where the government simply gives away green cards with little in return for the government.
At present, we have the EB-5 program, where a person invests $1 million in a new business, hires 10 US workers, and could be granted a green card two years later. But according to the Sec. of Commerce, the EB-5 program is riddled with fraud, where a person just simply puts out a $1 million loan, the investment may sometimes be nonexistent, and there’s little oversight. This $5 million gold card would replace the EB-5 program. In effect, for $5 million, the applicant would get a license from the Department of Commerce and then start their own business. Further, they would be thoroughly vetted to make sure they pose no security risk to the U.S., and of course their money was not obtained illegally, such as through drugs or other crimes.
According to President Trump, this new gold card will bring in people who will create jobs. They have obviously already demonstrated that they are successful and know how to make money. They would basically pay the U.S. government $5 million for a green (or gold) card and be able to create jobs and do business in the U.S. Further, they would not be taxed on income earned outside the U.S., so they can continue earning money outside the U.S. without paying taxes while making money in the U.S.
President Trump pointed out that if 1 million gold cards are sold, that equals $5 trillion, which can be used to pay down our debt.
