VISA DESPITE DENIAL
 Romulo
Carrera was denied a visa by the U.S. Embassy and also denied
a "waiver" by the INS, after doctors reported he had
"mental disorder," based on cigarette burns he made
on his abdomen during a bar-bet with a drinking buddy. Atty. Michael
J. Gurfinkel handled the appeal of Carrera’s case, and won
a rare reversal of the denial. The entire Carrera family arrived
in the U.S. just two weeks before his son's 21st birthday, and
was reunited with family members after 12 years of separation.
