 MISSION
POSSIBLE
First,
Emelinda Nimo’s grandfather tried to petition her as his
own "child," using a fake birth certificate. But the
U.S. Embassy discovered this and denied the visa. Then, the real
mother petitioned her, but the family submitted another fake birth
certificate, which had the wrong year of birth on it, making Emelinda
already 21 years old, when she was really only 20. Other attorneys
said the case was impossible, and was too messed up to be salvaged.
Atty. Gurfinkel, using Emelinda's true birth certificate, convinced
the U.S. Embassy to issue a visa to her, three days before her
21st birthday. Mother and daughter were joyfully reunited after
a 16-year separation.
