 LOVING
FATHER
 While
waiting for his priority date on a brother's petition to become
current, Jose (not his real name) started a family with another
woman, who bore him three illegitimate children. His problems:
1) During his green card interview, Jose did not declare his three
illegitimate children. 2) The birth certificates for the illegitimate
children all contained different dates of "marriage";
3) The birth certificates of the three children from the Local
Civil Registrar were different from those on file with the National
Statistics Office; 4) The Embassy wondered why Jose had obtained
a green card in 1993, but waited until 1996 to petition his three
children. Jose was turned down by several attorneys, who said
his case was hopeless and "too complicated," but Atty.
Gurfinkel was able to help obtain a green card for the eldest
daughter, who was turning 21, on an expedited basis, as well as
green cards for Jose's two other children. Now, Jose's family
is "complete."
