DESPITE TWO BIRTH CERTIFICATES, FAMILY GETS VISAS

Teresita Payawal (second from right) was put under investigation by the American Embassy for "alien smuggling," after the Embassy found two birth certificates for her daughter, containing different names, and registered years apart. Teresita's sister, Edith Fuentes (extreme left), brought the case to Atty. Gurfinkel, who proved to the U.S. Embassy that there was nothing fraudulent about the second birth certificate, and that this family was simply following a Filipino custom of changing a child's name to "cure" an early childhood illness.
