REDWOOD CITY, CA. --- Signing papers and documents without fully understanding or reading what they are about, could result in trouble years down the road. That is exactly what happened to Lito – our featured guest on this Sunday’s CITIZEN PINOY. Lito entered the U.S. as a tourist in 1988 to attend a seminar and visit the usual tourist sites. He saw how life could be better in the U.S., and decided to try his luck in America. Of course, his immediate concern was how to legalize his status and work. He met an immigration consultant who told him he could get a quick work permit. The consultant had Lito sign several blank documents. But unknown to Lito, the consultant filed a political asylum application for him. While Lito did obtain the work permit, he was unaware that trouble was just around the corner. He moved around a lot, doing odd jobs here and there, and so he never got the interview notice regarding the asylum application filed on his behalf, nor the notice of a court proceeding for his deportation.

Lito eventually married a U.S. citizen, and when Lito consulted an immigration attorney about his status, he found out that he was already in deportation proceedings because of the old asylum case. That attorney told Lito that there was nothing else he could do. Lito fell into despair. Suddenly, he was a TNT without hope! But then a ray of sunshine came – he caught an episode of CITIZEN PINOY on TFC that led him to consult with the Law Offices of Michael Gurfinkel. Attorney-of-last-hope Michael J Gurfinkel told Lito not to give up. Find out how Lito’s case turned out, and how Atty. Gurfinkel was able to solve his legal predicament, when Atty. Gurfinkel and broadcast personality Gel Santos-Relos bring you another brand-new episode of CITIZEN PINOY this Sunday, at 6:10 pm (PST) with a replay on Tuesday, at 11:20 pm (PST) on TFC.
