REDWOOD CITY, CA.
--- Jay had not seen his family for 14 years. His parents went
to the US many years ago, leaving him and his younger brother Joseph
behind. Jay’s immigrant father petitioned his sons under the
F2B category. Through the years, Jay’s parents separated and
Jay’s father got married to a US citizen. The US citizen stepmother
filed a new petition but to expedite the coming to America of brothers
Jay & Joseph, by the time the petition became current, Jay has already
aged out and only younger Joseph was able to enter the US.
Jay was losing hope.
He was the last one of the family left behind and he felt so alone.
When Jay’s petition
from his immigrant father became current, he went to the US Embassy
for his interview, only to be turned down. Apparently, his father
became a US citizen in 2000, and the petition for Jay would have to
be reclassified and again delayed for several more years. The
whole family was in despair. Luckily the Child Status Protection
Act (CSPA) came to the rescue! One afternoon, Jay got a call from
his aunt in Bicol saying that his passport and visa arrived in the mail.
His relatives from Bicol were all shouting for joy! And his mother
and brother were also rejoicing in the US! Their prayers have
been granted.
