A GREEN CARD THANKS TO WOWOWEE When Daniel Costes (second from right) appeared as a Bigat-10 contestant during Wowowee’s 2005 live telecast in NY, never did he imagine that he would “win” a green card for his daughter, Kimberlyn (second from left), whom he had not seen in over 12 years. Watch Citizen Pinoy on TFC this Sunday, April 29 at 6 p.m., (with replay on Tuesday May 1st at 10:50 pm) PST to find out how Willie Revillame helped this child achieve the “American Dream.

REDWOOD CITY, CA. --- When Wowowee was telecast “live” in New York in 2005, Daniel Costes was a contestant on Bigat-10. A video was played of his 13-year old daughter Kimberlyn, who was left behind in the Philippines. The entire audience was in tears after this “long-distance” reunion. But is it really a reunion if you can only see your child on a video patch from thousands of miles away?

Daniel had arrived in New York in 1987 with dreams of a better life. Shortly after, he met Athena and they fell in love. Athena became pregnant with Daniel’s baby, and while Daniel eagerly looked forward to being a father, Athena had other plans. She returned to the Philippines, where she gave birth to Kimberlyn. Later, Athena returned to the United States, leaving Kimberlyn behind, and separating from Daniel.

All alone in New York, and missing his daughter, (whom he had not seen since birth), Daniel was consumed with tears and sadness for his child.

During the live presentation of "Wowowee" in New York in 2005, Daniel and Kimberlyn were featured in a video conference on the show. The tears flowed between father and daughter, and the audience as well, showing how they longed to be together and to see each other in person. This heart-tugging display of emotion moved the hearts of many, including Willie Revillame and Atty. Michael J. Gurfinkel, who was there at the show. Having a charitable heart, Willie asked Atty. Gurfinkel to help the Costes father-and-daughter to be reunited. Daniel is finally united in the US with his daughter Kimberlyn, who is now all grown-up at 15 years old. Now, father and daughter can live and realize their dreams in the land of the free, thanks to that fateful day on Wowowee.
