Gurfinkel (right) bring you CITIZEN PINOY this Sunday, April 22 at 6:00 pm (PST) -- with a replay on Tuesday, April 24 at 10:50 pm (PST) on ABS-CBN Global's The Filipino Channel (TFC).

REDWOOD CITY, CA. ---Have you ever had that feeling of being “there and yet far away”? That was exactly how Pinky felt in her moments of joy, then despair, and then joy again. Pinky was widowed on Christmas eve 2001 and was left with four children. She thought her luck had changed when she entered the US as a fiancée of her US citizen boyfriend. Unfortunately, her fiance changed his mind – No marriage. But her Fiancée petition (K-1), required that she either marry the US citizen who petitioned her, or return to this Philippines. Pinky considered going “TNT”.

But then Pinky met Robert, another citizen, at a party. They fell in love and Pinky felt that this time, they were really meant for each other. They got married in Staten Island, New York after only one week of dating. Pinky and Robert thought that marrying each other would help legalize Pinky’s status in the US. But it posed more problems. Pinky could not adjust her status in the US, because marrying another US citizen (other than the one who originally filed her fiance petition) would prevent her from getting her papers in the U.S. And to complicate things even more, Robert had previously married another woman in the Philippines in 1998, and that marriage has not been annulled at the time that he married Pinky!

Pinky met with three lawyers who refused to handle her case, telling her “It’s hopeless”. Pinky and Robert persevered, and sought the help of leading immigration attorney Michael J. Gurfinkel. Find out how Pinky was able to overcome all these obstacles, get her green card, and live the American Dream, on this Sunday’s episode of CITIZEN PINOY!
