REDWOOD CITY, CA. --- For Marissa Ancheta, the past 15 years felt like a very long nightmare. Her husband, Fronie, left Marissa when she was pregnant with their 2nd child to explore greener pastures in the US. It was a sad parting of ways, even if it meant a better life down the road. The separation became unbearable and Marissa attempted to follow Fronie in the US, but she was denied a tourist visa three times. In the end, Marissa entered the United States under a different name, leaving behind two children, Gladys and Fronie Mar with their “lola”.

During the long, painful and uncertain waiting period, Marissa landed a job as a babysitter. But she cried to herself, thinking that she was taking care of somebody else’s child, but could not even hold her own children in her arms. Marissa missed seeing her children grow up. The kids were already attached to their “lola”, and this pained her even more.

After 12 years of separation, her children were able to immigrate to the U.S. But the reunion was awkward and cold. However, the minute they hugged at the airport, the distance and the wide gap created by the many years apart vanished, and was replaced by warmth and affection that each family member yearned for all that time. From a long period of separation to a glorious experience of finally being reunited her with family, Marissa’s long nightmare was coming to an end. But what about Marissa’s case of committing fraud, by entering under an assumed name? Would her “American Dream” be complete? Find out how the story ends in this Sunday’s episode of CITIZEN PINOY!
