Costly Mistake of
Trying to Save Money:
This week’s lesson on CITIZEN PINOY

"CHEAP" DENIAL ALMOST ENDS
AMERICAN DREAM: Therese dela Merced
(center) was happy with Atty. Gurfinkel’s legal services,
but left him for another attorney with lower prices. Find
out what happened to her case, and why she came back to
Atty. Gurfinkel for help, on this week’s episode of
Citizen Pinoy , Sunday,
April 8th at 6:00 pm (PST) -- with replays
every Tuesday, at 10:50 pm (PST) TFC.
REDWOOD CITY, CA. --- Since her childhood days in Zamboanga,
Philippines, Therese has always wanted to be a nurse. Her
parents supported her dream and sent her to the US to attain
her ambition. While studying for the board exams, her father
died. This interrupted her studies and review, as she chose
to go home to the Philippines to pay her last respects.
Therese then returned to the US with her husband in order
to pursue her dream. There was, however, one obstacle. She
needed to legalize her status in the U.S. At first, she
retained the services of leading immigration attorney MICHAEL
J. GURFINKEL, who immediately worked on her case, and filed
her labor certification application as an LVN (Licensed
Vocational Nurse). Eventually, when Therese became an RN
(Registered Nurse), (which is pre-approved for green cards
and faster processing than LVN), Atty. Gurfinkel filed an
RN petition. Although very happy with Gurfinkel’s
services, Therese decided to change to another lawyer, who
charged lower fees to finish the job. Unfortunately, after
several years with that attorney, Theresa’s adjustment
of status was denied. The lawyer then filed, a Motion to
Reopen, which also got denied.
Therese was shocked and in a panic. She realized that
her attempt to save money through cheaper fees of another
another lawyer ended up with a denial and the end of her
“American Dream”. At the urging of her husband,
Theresa returned to Atty. Gurfinkel to straighten out the
case. Before long, Therese and her husband got the good
news that she has long been praying for, when Atty. Gurfinkel
called to say, “ your case was approved”. According
to Theresa “kahit mahal, may ginagawa at tama
ang gawa.”(even if it cost more, they
really work hard, and they do it right)
