REGINE SINGS OGIE'S NEW CITIZEN PINOY THEME SONG "MAY PAG-ASA"

MAY PAG-ASA. Shown above are Atty. Michael J. Gurfinkel with Regine Velasquez and singer-composer Ogie Alcasid as they launch a new song of hope and theme song for Citizen Pinoy. Be among the first to hear Regine sing Ogie's latest composition, "May Pag-asa". Citizen Pinoy starts its second season on Sunday, September 18, on TFC at 5 p.m. (PST).
Back before the embassy incident, Regine Velasquez was rolling through her very successful career, running blockbuster movies, and so many hit songs. She was never prepared for a denial of anything that she desired. She had no idea how it was to be down, really down. Then her ban to the U.S. came, an embarrassment which seemed to have drowned all that she had. It was the lowest point in her life. It seemed hopeless. No more chance. Nothing to do but roll with the punches, or give up.
But did she? Of course not. Regine Velasquez is one who knows all about tenacity. She was of old school, a survivor. She could be down, but one cannot count her out. Overcoming her fears, and with determination, she sought the able assistance of Atty. Michael J. Gurfinkel, who helped her lift her "lifetime ban" to enter the U.S. She recovered, moved forward, performed again in the U.S., and the rest is history.
Her own experience of rising from any difficulty led her to sing "May Pag-asa" , the new theme song of the Citizen Pinoy TV hit series. She was the premier guest of the show's first season, but she wanted to do more for Atty. Gurfinkel, who hosts the show.
She wanted to relate to her kababayans how it was to fear, and be helpless and hopeless, and yet muster enough to do something about the problem, move on, and get through. She needed to let her audience know that hope is always there to those who wanted to give life to their dreams and goals. Regine hopes that this new song will inspire her countrymen anywhere in the world, to act and do something about their problems, and move forward, as tomorrow will not wait for them.
It is no secret that the overseas workers (whether legal or illegal) are the real heroes of the Philippines. Without them and their remittances to their families, the Philippines would face economic hardship. So in her own way, Regine hopes to inspire the overseas workers in a way she does best - - through her songs, as a tribute to their sacrifices and determination.
And who better to translate her feelings, and inspiration to our overseas kababayans than the maestro himself, Mr. Ogie Alcasid. The song master has done it well this time. Through his lyrics, he showed his respect for the aspirations and determination of our countrymen overseas. Just listen to his words - - "May pag-asa kang matatanaw kahit panay pagsubok ang iyong buhay..." No one could have said it better. And no one but Regine could have given life to the song's message better.
There is no doubt that Citizen Pinoy's new theme song will again be one of the tandem's hit songs. But that is not the only goal of Citizen Pinoy. The overriding goal is for you, the audience, to identify not only with the inspirations or emotions of the song, but with the special, unusual opportunities, information, and activity that would be relayed by Season 2 of your show, Citizen Pinoy!
Be among the first to hear this new song " May Pag-asa" at the initial airing of the Citizen Pinoy Season 2 this Sunday, September 18. Hear and hope! Identify your situation and move forward!
Be like Regine, and give life to your dreams!
CITIZEN PINOY airs on TFC every Sunday at 5 p.m., with replays every Monday at 4 a.m. , and on ANC-USA every Friday at 8 p.m. (all Pacific Standard Time). In the Philippines, the show airs every Saturday at 11 a.m. on ANC (ABS-CBN News Channel).
